grokking in fullness

January 29, 2004

Bryan and I were driving home from work, except that it was late evening. The sun had just set, because the sky was still somewhat light in the west. For some reason, we were going to Watseka before we went home.

We were on the four lane north of Sheldon when Bryan and I both looked into the sky and saw a large procession of lights south of Watseka. Bryan said "Look, you can see Big R from here." I looked at the lights closer and realized it was actually a fleet of UFO's.

Somehow I realized that if I stayed on the road too long and didn't find a way back to Mom's house in Sheldon, I'd be caught alone and the aliens would abduct me. I was alone then, and slammed on the brakes (for some reason I was now driving a Ford Ranger five speed), but couldn't stop in time to turn around at the intersection of Rt. 24 and Trudeau's road. So I turned around on the next road (the one leading to my house), feeling more danger the further away from Sheldon I drove.

After I turned, I was parked outside a scummy looking house in Watseka. It was gloomy out, as if a large thunderstorm were brewing. I realized that the house was actually a gas station, and went inside to pay. The people inside were all talking about the fleet of UFO's they'd just seen, and I realized that I had to get home quickly.

I went back outside and got into my car, I tried turning on my portable radio to monitor the police frequencies and see if they'd be doing anything to keep the aliens occupied so I could get back to Sheldon, but I couldn't find the button for the right station. I kept hitting the lamp button, but the light wouldn't turn on for me to see the screen.

Thats when I woke up.

I used to love my mom's car. I once told Gary that I would be buried in it, or at least end up dying inside.
