grokking in fullness

I had an eventful weekend. Kelly's parents were gone for the weekend, and we spent Friday night watching movies on satellite at her house. She ended up staying the night at my house, and in the morning we made plans to eat dinner together. Originally we were going to go out to eat, but then decided that Kelly could cook it herself and we could invite some friends to join us.

Originally we called William and Amy, but as the dinner portions grew, we decided to bring Suzanne and Jeremy as well. Looking back, we should have invited many more people because we had an abundance of leftovers.

After the dinner, William and Amy stayed and the four of us watched the Stepford Wives. As always, it was an excellent movie until the sad ending. This has got me thinking that I may be able to make a good bit of money setting up a wife-training school to "educate" thousands of new Stepford wives. But of course without all the robotics and neurosurgical microchips. Good old-fashioned books and a light sprinkling of discipline.

On Sunday, Art and I decided to get together and have a short roadtrip. Unfortunately we didn't plan on going very far, so that left our options as to a destination limited. When Andy was still around, the frequency of our roadtrips left us travelling farther and farther away from home in search of new and interesting sights.

We also discussed what to do about the third person dilemma. No one can ever replace Andy as a roadtrip partner, but road trips are so much more fun with a third person. Should we conduct interviews and auditions? Only go two people from now on? Its a hard choice.

Anyway, our first destination ended up being Cissna Park. There was a tractor parked just outside town which Art posed on in his role as an effeminate farmer.

After loading up on junk food, we turned north to investigate any activities at the old Moonie church. For those of you who don't know, the "Moonies" are a Korean cult group whose leader believes himself to be something akin to Jesus. At least thats what we found out when we first delved into the story some years ago. Mandy did some internet investigation and even walked around their seemingly abandoned compound. She and two friends went there on one occasion and looked around - finding nothing. On the second occasion, a few days later, the three girls walked around again, this time finding three books by the leader of the group laying on the ground outside. I have one of those books at my house.

It was very spooky, but soon thereafter interest in the site waned, and I hadn't been out there for a few years. When Art and I returned, we found the gates wide open (they are normally shut and locked) and a new sign in place. We drove along the path leading to a barn with a faded picture of the sun painted near the roof, and saw the lighted windows of a house through the dark trees in the distance.

We didn't want to go any further and risk being accused of tresspassing, so we turned around and left.

From there, we went to the Crescent City bridge to do some ghost hunting. If you are unfamiliar with the story, or of my doubts of its authenticity, you should check out the link first. Several of my pictures came out very interesting, with dozens of tiny orbs emanating from a section of the bridge near the rear driver's side of my car. Either we experienced some sort of supernatural activity with the photographs, or my camera is becoming a little rundown in its old age.

Picture 1: In this picture there are dozens of tiny orbs around the screen, but what caught my eye was the large white one in the top center of the screen. See the tail stretching away from it? Note the other orbs, and how some of them have faint tails as well pointing in opposite directions. I took several pictures of this area, many one right after the other and especially in the case where orbs turned up in the review screen. Some have dozens of orbs, some have one or two, and some have none at all.

Picture 2: What interested me about this picture wasn't the two lights on the left, but the large orb on the right side. Note the tree in the background. If you compare the tree as it appears normally, and as it appears behind the orb, you can see that it shows up better when the tree is behind the orb. I don't know if that is significant or anything, but it seemed neat to me. Also, look at the faint streak in the lower left hand side.

That brought an end to our roadtrip. Hopefully one day I will learn to invent a wormhole between Sheldon and Chicago, and we have have Andy at the ready for spur of the moment trips. Oh, and Jodie wanted to know if anyone was wanted to get together the first Saturday of break.
