Last night's fire meeting resulted in something relatively unexpected. I was promoted to the position of lieutenant. Thats pretty cool, I think, but whats even cooler to me is that I now have my own call number. If you're listening to the scanner, and you hear someone identify themselves as 1706, thats me! I think this also means that Suzanne must now legally address me as "Lt. Grapenuts Master, Sir." They even offered me a new radio and pager, but my pager is already top of the line, and since I had already bought my own radio, it has much more functions that the ones they give out.
You will all be happy to know that my insomnia has somewhat abated this week, and I've been sleeping like a baby. An extremely cute baby, to be exact. Although my moments of quiet slumber have been periodically broken by the loud screaching of the animals underneath my house fighting each other to the death. Obviously terrorist tribal warfare. I've been considering going Vietnam tunnelrat style on them and crawling around underneath my house with my .22 pistol to search for their hideouts. But its awfully cold and yucky out right now so I think I'll stick with my tried-and-true method to deal with the rodents... which involves walking through my house stomping on the floors and yelling "Shut the fuck up!" at the top of my voice.
I was supposed to have lunch with Nathan sometime this week, but unfortunately I had to cancel because I am saving money. Lately I've been concerned that I don't have enough of a "buffer" in my checking account. Meaning the free money I have left once all the month's bills are paid. But thankfully I went and did an account balance check the other night, and I have much more in there than I actually thought. At first, I believed it was the result of checks that haven't yet cleared, but after doing some careful accounting, I realized it was right. Plus, I volunteered to work tomorrow, so I will have much more money come paytime next week. That means, Nathan, that you and I will be able to eat lunch as planned.
Oh, and I got back the results of my blood work from the doctor's office:
Cholesterol: 163
Triglycerides: 104
HDL: 43
LDL: 99
These are all listed in the "good" range. Everything else was listed "within normal range."
So how's that for good news? Not much else to say, this is one of those boredom updates.
