January 31, 2005 - Monday | 8:33 AM, CST I had planned a wonderful weekend full of romantic excitement and adventure with Kelly, but nature had a different plan for us. We started out our day by traveling to Lafayette during a small snowstorm. We dined at the Olive Garden. A middle-aged lady and her yuppie-looking husband were seated at the table next to us, and the lady asked Kelly if she had knitted her own scarf. Although Kelly admitted that she did not knit the scarf, I spoke up and said I did. But thats not important. What is important (well, not really important, but interesting to observe), is that almost every time Kelly and I go out, and she is well dressed or has done her hair up, a stranger will make a comment to her. She is constantly being told her hair looks nice, her coat or gloves are nice, or something similiar. My most memorable experience comes from when I picked out Kelly's outfit before going out. At our first stop, Kelly was going on about how she didn't look good, etc. We got out of the car, and began walking to the door. An elderly man was out front loitering, and said to me "Careful there, buddy... you've got a good looking girl next to you!" How right he was. Now where was I? Oh yes, after the Olive Garden, we visited Priscilla's, an adult novelty shop of sorts. The snow was coming down somewhat fierce now, so we decided to cut our trip short. We drove home at 40 mph, stopping once at a grocery store for some evening snacks. Once we finally arrived home at nine o'clock, the ground was freshly covered in snow. On her way to the door, Kelly slipped on an inclined part of my driveway, and badly twisted her ankle. We had made previous plans to meet up with Nathan for the night, so I called him and let him know we'd be homebound (Kelly couldn't move and had to be carried from place to place). He promised to bring a movie over, and I began to pack Kelly's ankle with ice and an ace wrap. We watched A Clockwork Orange, and by the time the movie was over Kelly was still occasionally sobbing. I examined her foot, and found the injured one to be substantially higher in temperature than the other, and it began to exhibit a purplish tint. On we went to the emergency room. Thankfully we were the only ones there, but we still didn't get to leave until roughly 3:30 AM. But Kelly had a clean bill of health, so that was the good news. Since I have only a single bed and didn't want to disturb her, and didn't want to clean up the guest bedroom, I had to sleep alone on my extremely tiny love seat. And that was my weekend.
In other news, Colleen has made herself a webpage. You can go here: http://thecolleenklingexperience.blogspot.com/ to see it. Kudos to her. |
