May 26, 2005 - Thursday | 8:48 PM, CST Yesterday I finished my clinicals. Now I am completely done, though I talked to my instructor yesterday and they still don't have a concrete test date set. Thats kind of disappointing, but I'm sure I'll do fine. What I'm not looking forward to, however, is going back to work tonight. Although an eight hour day will seem like a vacation compared to the twelves I've been working, I'd still rather have a couple of extra days off to wind down and enjoy myself, seeing as how I used all my vacation days off during my leave of absence. C'est la vie. But if I go in tonight, I'll get paid for Monday, which is Memorial day. So it all kind of evens out. Not having done much of anything but work in the hospital or ride in the ambulance for the past month, I really don't have anything to report. Next weekend I will be attending a four day seminar at the fire college with Keith and some other guys off the department. I'm looking forward to it in a way, but I'd kind of like to take a break from all the emergency training for a few weeks. Kinda let it all sink in, you know? I will say one thing about the last month though, I learned I can deal with stress a lot better than what I thought. Put it this way, for nearly the last four weeks my days have consisted of nothing but twelve hours straight of emergencies. For about the last week of my clinicals, I noticed I had become visibly tense, constantly clenching my teeth enough to give me a migraine and cursing silently when the pager went off. So yeah, in a way I am glad to be getting back into my old routine. Art's bachelor party went really well. He passed out at 11:00 PM like a sissy, and spent the entire night puking in my toilet. But I know I had a lot of fun, so hopefully everyone else did as well. All totaled, we ate thirty hot dogs, four hamburgers, eight baked potatoes, and two bags of chips (there were about ten of us). The weather was good and everything went off without a hitch. Now its time to eat and get ready to go to work. |
