June 1, 2005 - Wednesday | 6:31 PM, CST I leave in the morning for a four day training seminar at the fire college in Champaign. Although I am looking forward to the trip, I'm not looking forward to the erratic changes in my sleep schedule. I've never been very good at switching between day shift and night shift. But oh well, its all expense paid, except for meals, so I should at least have a lot of fun. Art's wedding went well. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but I will post some the next time I update. I don't have a lot of time right now because I still need to pack my clothes and go to the fire station to get my gear in order before tomorrow morning. I tried calling Art today to see how everything was going, but he has his cell phone shut off with one of his typical long voice messages telling everyone what he's doing. The funny part though is the fact that he brought his laptop with him on his honeymoon. After the wedding, Kelly and I stayed the night in the hotel where the reception was held. In fact, I think about three other couples from the wedding stayed overnight as well. Plus Gary and Andy, which were only a few miles away. At one in the morning Kelly and I met up with Gary for some Steak N' Shake. Mmmmm mmmm! I haven't had late night Steak N' Shake for years! The next afternoon, Kelly, Gary, Andy, and I went cruising around looking for garage sales in Kankakee. We had lunch at a new Chinese place in the Meadowview Mall, where I tried sushi for the first time. Andy advised to put a small amount of wasabi (sp?) on top to drown out any yucky raw fish taste. Now, for those of you who don't know anything about wasabi, its some time of spicy horseradish mix. The thing is, I had just been to New Gordo's the week before and ordered habaneros cooked in with my taco meat (Nathan and I have been having problems getting our New Gordo's tacos to have the right amount of spiciness). The habaneros barely did the trick to make the tacos spicy for me, so I figured, "Why not dump some of this sissy ass wasabi on my sushi?" Well, after chewing for about two seconds, the wasabi kicked in with enough force that I literally felt my airway begin to constrict and started having trouble breathing. My eyes instantly began to water and I eventually had to spit the whole thing out onto a napkin. It was quite an experience. And that brings me now to a proposal. Would anyone else be interested in a large group of people going to a hotel for the weekend? I think it would be a nice getaway. Stay up late swimming, take a two in the morning trip to some twenty-four hour restaurant, hang out the next day... Any other people think that would be a good idea? Alright, time to get ready. Look me up if you're going to be in Champaign this weekend. |
