grokking in fullness

Well, unfortunately I've lost all the pictures I took of Art's wedding. Which really isn't that bad since I didn't take very many... Luckily, Suzanne e-mailed me some good ones which I have posted for your viewing pleasure.

Picture 1: Art and Annie cutting their wedding cake.

Picture 2: Art and Annie's first dance.

Picture 3: Art removing Annie's garter.

Picture 4: Me and Kelly before the ceremony.

I didn't take any pictures of my trip to Champaign. Keith had brought some disposable cameras, and he had given me one but it isn't developed yet. I'll try to find a scanner when it gets developed and show you some of the more interesting ones. Keith and I had a hell of a time. A hell of an exhausting time, but also a lot of fun. I was sick for the entire trip, however, and that wasn't fun at all.

Some of the more memorable events included a seven story concrete burn towner. They had a huge fire in the middle of one of the rooms with about six or seven pallets burning in one corner for heat, with a few bales of wet straw added to produce smoke. They brought our group in there and gave us a lecture on fire behavior as the temperature near the top of the room approached one thousand degrees. It was HOT! In an eight hour period, I probably drank a good gallon and a half of water, if not more, and only pissed once.

On our way back, we got a phone call from my mom informing me there was a warrant out for Keith's arrest. You see, Keith's van was at Sondergrath's being worked on, so he was given a loaner car. Well, since his van would be done the afternoon of the day we left for our trip, they refused to allow him to drive it down to Champaign. Well that was fine by us, we'd just take my car. So Thursday morning, the two of us dropped off the loaner at Sondergrath's, and gave the key to an elderly mechanic (the only one there at the time). We figured that was that.

Well, I guess the mechanic neglected to sign it back in, and it was loaned out to another person. Somewhere in the limbo, they forgot that they'd loaned it out to someone else, and figured that Keith still had the car. So they called and got a warrant, and Friday night the police came looking for Keith at work. When Keith and I learned about this on Sunday, he called up the owner of Sondergrath at home and gave him a [rather large] piece of his mind. Everything was cleared up, and I was no longer traveling with a felon.

I can't wait to go back next year. I wish Bryan had been able to go along, but he was on vacation down in Florida.

The fire training was wonderfully timed. On Saturday we had a rickety old barn filled with hay catch fire, and we were able to get there in time to save it from burning to the ground. The structure only sustained minor roof damage. Blamshit!

In sadder news, Nathan has finally made his move to Pennsylvania. Kelly and I drove over there Saturday to say goodbye. I wish this past month and a half had allowed me more spare time, because I really haven't been able to spend much time with any of my friends lately. And with Nathan living in another state now, it puts a damper on visits. I do, however, look forward to visiting Pennsylvania once he is settled in (perhaps later in the summer).

Nathan: when you get everything going, e-mail me your phone number please. Or just call. Whatever is convenient. And of course lets all wish him good luck in his new job.
