grokking in fullness

November 6, 2005 - Sunday | 10:58 AM, CST

I have been sleeping much better these past couple of weeks. I won't say that my insomnia has gone away, but rather it is controlled. With the combination of colder temperatures (especially in my bedroom, which I keep blocked off from the rest of the house), and a little purple friend called tylenol PM, I've been sleeping like a baby. And as a result, I've been much happier and energetic.

Bryan and I have played several games of Magic in the last several days. I found all my cards on the back porch of my Mom's house after an exhaustive search. I was surprised that my cards survived two years of uncontrolled temperature fluctuations without melting together. Lucky me. I'm very much looking forward to an upcoming Magic tournament, which will probably take place the weekend before Thanksgiving. Most likely Saturday.

I've volunteered to participate in the county's bioterrorism drill this coming Thursday. I'm hoping to see exactly what they're going to expect from area emergency agencies, especially on the fire and EMS side. Since September 11th, it seems like the government has wholeheartedly included the fire departments of the country into the "homeland security" forces. I want to know more about what context they expect us to participate, because I don't exactly believe anything should be changing in how we respond to emergencies. Fire departments should not be included as part of some sort of military or law enforcement response. Now, if the military is doing maneuvers somewhere and one of their Hummers catches fire, sure we'll go put it out and give medical assistance to anyone injured... but asking unarmed volunteers (or even paid departments for that matter) to respond as a first line of defense when armed combatants are involved... I dunno.

Like I said, I hope to learn more this Thursday regarding the particulars of the response plan. Is anyone else going that I know?

Not much else to report for now, I really hadn't even planned on making an entry. I suppose later today I'll do some grocery shopping. I've grown fond of cooking lately, which is interesting enough given my sexist attitude. Dinner tonight: chicken and vegetable skillet, an adaptation of one of Mom's recipes. Bon appetit!
