grokking in fullness

February 12, 2006 - Sunday | 3:57 AM, CST

Not quite sure why I'm updating. Really I should be getting some sleep so my Sunday isn't entirely wasted in bed, but I'm talking to Zach right now on ICQ and I just read an old journal entry of Suzanne's that said I don't update enough. So here we sit.

The first subject that comes to mind is an article I read in the newspaper last week. Apparantly the premier of Italy is seeking re-election, and to prove that he was a moral person, he publicly stated that until the election, he was going to withhold from sex with his wife. Naturally, the Catholic church approved of this measure, and promised that it supported his bid for re-election.

Thing is, I don't quite understand how this proves that he is a moral person. I've never really understood what was the church's fascination with sex and morality, but perhaps thats because I haven't read much into the Biblical themes regarding the subject. I've always been more interested in the "wife obey your husband" passages. I wonder if that makes me a blasphemer or something, to use Biblical quotes to support my chauvanism?

Back to the no sex election campaign... Truthfully, I can see a similiar theme in American politics. Although it shocks me less coming from other countries, where (I assume) private sexual matters between public officials is more of an open theme, I could still see some goody two shoes Republican candidate pulling the same thing, mostly to appease the Bible thumpers.

Thats not to say that I'm anti-Christian right now, because if anything, I believe that anti-Christians are no better, if not worse, than Bible thumpers themselves. Truth is, I've been devoting more of my thoughts to such subjects as of late. Or maybe you can just say I've been thinking about the paranormal a little too much lately. For me, they're the same thing. Being raised a Christian in a Methodist church, I have, I suppose you'd say, a bias. But you all remember back in our high school days when The Craft came out and Marilyn Manson (sp?) was popular? I noticed a lot of kids go Christian bashing just because they thought it was cool. In fact, I'd have to say that quite a few of the non-Christian religions in this country today have had their ranks swelled solely on the basis of religious counter-culturism.

I'm rambling now, and even with all the typing, my fingers are still ice-cold. I think I lost my train of thought, not only because I didn't really have a solid point to make in the first place, but what with the ICQ conversation and the late hour... it all ads together. So where was I? Oh, yes. I'd have liked to be a reporter when that announcement was made. "Does that include your wife's butthole, or just her vagina? So no bondage from now on, either? Does that include spanking and titty torture? Will you still make her wear that ball gag, Mr. President?"

I'd like to do some more ghost hunting here pretty soon. As I mentioned before, I've been growing more interested in the paranormal. To admit the truth, however, if I actually ever saw a ghost, I'd probably be so scared I'd be sleeping under my mom's bed with my shotgun pointed at every shadow that I imagined to move. Think of it this way: if you prove the existence of ghosts, then by default you prove the existence of God. Even if God wasn't there from the beginning, look at human nature. Put a group of people together, and gradually one emerges as the leader of the group, then you have the people who enjoy power but not necessarily the top position. So I'd say that if we do in fact have souls that remain after our deaths, surely there is one soul that has emerged as the leader of all the others. At least, in theory.

I may not have mentioned it before, but I actually receive a large number of e-mails from local people who have visited my ghost page. Perhaps its because I've gotten a lot more mail than usual lately, but my interest in the paranormal has been piqued. Do I have any volunteers to assist me in my experiments?

I fought a fire the other day in a chicken coop. No chickens were harmed in the blaze, but in honor of the event, I had KFC for supper that night. The service, compared to my most recent IHOP experiences, was supurb. I give my dining adventure an overall rating of nine out of ten feathers.

I think its about time for me to go to bed.
