grokking in fullness

March 7, 2006 - Tuesday | 1:17 PM, CST

As many of you know, today is my birthday. I chose to call off work last night to enjoy a quiet evening with Kelly watching movies. I was a little hesitant to call off; however, we could go on strike at any time.

Funny thing is, I unsed to be very much against unions. In fact, I remember driving past a picket line once and shouting insults at the marchers. Since actually working a union job, I've come to see them as something of a necessary evil. Really my only problem with them is that I believe they encourage laziness, inefficient production methods, and poor quality of goods. I believe strongly that unions would do well to encourage their members to strive for excellence in workmanship, similiar to the guidelines the guilds provided during the middle ages.

On the other hand, I also believe in the whole dog-eat-dog world idea. If the company thinks they can survive without the union, let them try. Thats why you don't see a McDonalds union. Most anti-union people see nothing wrong with going in for an interview and bargaining for wages. If the company doesn't offer competetive wages or benefits, they probably wouldn't work there. Unionism is nothing more than bargaining on a large scale.

I really hadn't wanted to get off on a philosophical debate, which is why my above ramblings aren't very cohesive. Maybe we'll return to this subject later. Moving on...

I'm happy to see that Art and Suzanne have been updating recently. Lets see how long they can keep it up! In other news, Nathan is back home. I'm happy for this, although I haven't seen much of him. I expected that at first, since I imagine his family will probably want to make up for the time he's been gone.

My cat goes in for neutering on Friday. In the year that I've had him, he hasn't gone into heat, which made me complacent to his getting fixed. Now his horomones have hit full force, and I catch him trying to squat frequently. Luckily, he has only tried it on linoleum and plastic bags. Hopefully I can keep his bladder at bay until Friday before he gets to any furniture or carpet.

I haven't forgotten about adding new photo galleries. Just be patient. I've also decided to add a new section titled: "Fan Mail," to address the frequent letters from strange individuals finding their way to my page.

Toodleloo, Kelly and I are on our way for Chinese at a buffet in Kankakee that Gary and Andy showed us a few months ago.
