May 20, 2006 - Saturday | 1:58 AM, CST Went to Pizza King today to welcome Zach home from school. We had a pretty big group of people there: Bryan, Jodie, William, Amy, Kelly, Junior, Bloomer, Koby, Spinner, and Nathan (it was actually Nathan's idea for the get-together). It was nice to hang out with everyone. I've noticed myself falling into a bit of an introverted lifestyle lately, and I've resolved to not fall into a permanent habit of isolation. After pizza, everyone converged to William's house, where we hung out and started to watch a movie. Unfortunately Kelly wasn't feeling very well, so I took her back to my house. By the time I got back into town, everyone had left William's. Koby is hosting a fire tomorrow night, and he insists the fire will be made with wood from an actual tree, rather than factory-made wood or garbage. I look forward to going, though I kind of remember hearing it might rain tomorrow. Mark Nagele recently became a hero for the third time in his life. The first two being when he had his appendix taken out, and then again when Amber wrecked his truck. This time, his foot was savagely broken when he engaged in fierce combat with a cow. As is customary, I brought my helmet over for him to wear. Keeping Mark's spirits up helps him recuperate so he can get back in the fight. I fixed Kristy some tacos on Friday for her birthday. I still haven't gotten the bean recipe/preparation quite right... but I believe with time, practice, and a lot of willing test subjects the problems will work themselves out. Of course, my basis for good refried beans comes from tasting what the restaurants prepare, and if you've ever looked, you would know that even Mexican restaurants get their refried beans from giant store-bought canisters. Maybe my beans are actually what they're supposed to taste like? Who knows. This last batch was a little bit better because I added some water to the mixture and also used a potato masher to gain a finer consistency. I believe I'm on the right track. What I should probably do is open up a can of beans, and make a batch of homemade, then have a blind taste test from the three biggest Mexican eaters I know: Zach, Nathan, and William. I've noticed recently that my cooking skills are growing, and I'm becoming more comfortable with complex dishes. I've also begun to cook with the Nazi-like efficiency that typically encompasses many of the things I do. Nevertheless, I believe that a good Mexican dinner is something that will always be a two person procedure. I believe it is important for all men to learn how to cook in order to gain greater independence from female oppression. Learning to cook helps men to stay in control of the planet, just the way it should be. Thats all for now. If anyone finds my PHP book, please send it my way. I need to figure out a way to password protect my comment code in order to prevent spammers from using my site. |
