Whats in a name?If you've been searching through my journal archives, you've probably noticed that many of my pages (most notably those concerning my former employers) contain the phrase "[name omitted on the advice of my legal counsel]."This stems from a certified letter written by ABRA that I received in late October, just after I had been asked to "voluntarily" resign from the Arc. By going here you can read a copy of that letter, which threatened me with legal action should I not comply with their demands to, among other things, take down the names of my fellow co-workers. As you can well imagine, discussing your co-workers in your every day events is far from being illegal, so at first, I was not going to take the names down. But my informal attorney, Andrew Wetmore, suggested I replace all their names with the mildly amusing legal disclaimer you see in the above paragraph. And thats just what I did. Over the next few days, I searched through my archives, and found the names of my co-workers who I deemed would be appropriate to replace with the disclaimer. Does this mean I don't like those particular co-workers? Not hardly. When I discuss co-workers I don't like, I made it very clear. I got alone fine with Jo Ellyn and Sue (to name a few) great. Hell, Jo Ellyn was the only one who gave me a going-away card when I went to work for the Arc. I still have it, as a matter of fact. They were some nice people to work with, although I doubt they think very highly of me after all that legal fiasco. The point is, I figure that with what they had heard of my website, they're probably the most likely to be offended by having their names mentioned. Thats not to say that I never disagreed with anyone from work. Far from it. The main reason I keep this website going is because it is in effect my diary. People do get mad at other people. Thats just a fact of life. The only difference between my diary and others', is that mine is online. So in my journal, I do talk about people with whom I had disagreements. And at work, I had a lot of 'em! To conclude, I will say that while rude sometimes, my entries about co-workers from ABRA were usually just rantings about things with which I had disagreements, and when all that trouble started, I really didn't have anything against the people I had worked with for three years. |
