I drive a purple 1993 Mercury Cougar, XR7. It has a 3.8L V6 engine. I first bought my Cougar in August of 2000. It had 107,000 miles, and cost me $4,325 (without taxes). It now has 150,000 miles on it (as of November 12, 2002), so I've definately gotten some use out of the car. Contrary to what most people say, my Ford product has been one of the most reliable machines I've seen on the road *knock on wood*. Very few problems have occurred that have actually required dealer maintenance. The pins in the passenger side door went out, and I have yet to get them fixed. This is rather annoying, because I have to close the door from the outside. Although an inconvenience, and sometimes painful, it does get me approving looks when I take my girlfriend out to eat and the older folks see me supposedly acting like a gentleman. An air pump in the throttle body has gone out, which caused the engine to idle faster than normal. Also, a grommit attaching the detent cable to the throttle broke, and wedged itself underneath the whole thing. This caused my engine to speed up to about 4,500 RPM's while I was on the highway and nearly got me whipped out by another car when I tried to stop. Otherwise, everything has been routine maintenance: oil changes, new lights, shocks, etc. |
