grokking in fullness

For the best description (and pictures!) of Sheff, you should probably read Nathan's review on his website. Click here to take a look.

Sheff was a railroad switching yard and engine repair shop for the old New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad. It is currently owned by the KB&S railroad, from my understanding. Anyway, several of us have been out to explore the old foundations that are left among the tall and unkempt grasses and trees, but Nathan and I have been the ones with the chief archeological and historical interest.

We have found various foundations and defunct rail beds, as well as manholes leading into a small underground room of sorts which we were unable to explore due to standing water. Unfortunately, there is a lot of trash out there from local rednecks' dumping. That, coupled with time, shifting soils, vegetation, and mosquitos, makes it hard to explore to any use. I'd love to go out there with a metal detector to see if I could find anything underground.

If you have any more information regarding this place, please e-mail me, or go to Nathan's site and e-mail him. It is located out in the middle of nowhere in between Raub and Earl Park, Indiana.

West of Sheff are some hills and other dirt piles that make for some good helling experiences. The mudholes there and very sticky and extremely tough to escape from.
